Experience our signature tour, “What We Treasure”, delivered by Cultural Ambassadors who share their own stories and first-hand cultural experiences. Throughout this tour your group will view artifacts and hear stories that give an overview of the past and present way of life of the Squamish and Lil’wat peoples. This tour includes a welcome song, fifteen minute film, and exhibit tour.

This tour begins with a welcome song, a fifteen-minute film, and a brief introduction to the Centre. Your group will visit the Salish Stroll, the Centre’s interpretive forest walk, as a Cultural Ambassador presents herbs and medicinal plants that grow in the region. Traditional teas and First Nations fried bread, bannock, are served in the latter half of the tour while Cultural Ambassadors share the healing benefits of the tea being sampled.

This tour begins with a traditional welcome song inside the Cultural Centre followed by a fifteen minute film. Afterwards, guests visit our Interpretive Forest Trail, the Salish Stroll, where a knowledgeable Cultural Ambassador provides insight into the local flora and fauna in our shared territory. Guests will learn how the Nations used them for food, in our teas as preventative medicine, and how we transformed some into useful tools. This tour provides a glimpse of how our ancestors lived, and it showcases our intimate connection with our land.

Location

The Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre is located in Whistler, BC Canada, on Blackcomb Way (4584) and Lorimer Road right across from the Fairmont Chateau Whistler in the Upper Village.

Directions

From Vancouver: cross the Lion’s Gate Bridge, take the West Vancouver exit, turn right on Taylor Way, take Highway 1 exit west, take Highway 99 (Sea to Sky) exit north to Whistler, British Columbia. Turn right off Hwy 99 at Lorimer Road exit into Whistler Village. The Centre is located at the “T” intersection of Lorimer Road and Blackcomb Way across from Lost Lake Park in Whistler’s upper village (approximate driving time: 2 hours).

Parking

Once you arrive in Whistler British Columbia, drive to Lorimer Road and, before approaching the Cultural Centre, turn right into Skiers Lot #4. The Centre is just east, across the bridge from the parking lot. There is a designated loading and unloading area, several handicap spaces and bus drop-off.
