Experience the SLCC’s exhibition celebrating 100 years ago, in 1923, when sixteen villages amalgamated together to form the Squamish Nation as we know it today.

Xwalacktun Carving

New House Post carved by Xwalacktun 

Admire the new carved house post now standing at the entrance to the SLCC Istken Hall on Lorimer Road. Carved by Master Carver Xwalacktun and Apprentice Brandon Hall, the house post honours the Hereditary Chiefs who came together to form the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) in 1923.

The SLCC is proud to share authentic art and storytelling through the Go Whistler Tours App – created by Tourism Whistler and the Resort Municipality of Whistler. Thoughtfully curated by SLCC Curator Mixalhítsa7 Alison Pascal, the Art & Storytelling of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and Líl̓wat7úl – walking tour weaves its way through the Village to nine locations that are culturally significant to the Squamish Nation and Lil’wat Nation starting at and returning to the SLCC.
