Whistler Film Festival’s awards created by Squamish Nation artist, Jim Yelton

The Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre is proud to be part of the 2015 Whistler Film Festival!  This year’s Film Festival Awards were created by Squamish Nation artist Jim Yelton.  The design that Jim carved on this this year’s awards is the Wolf and Warrior Chief.

The Talking Stick is used by First Nation people as a means of just and impartial hearing.  Traditionally, the Talking Stick was used in council circles to designate who had the right to speak.  It carries respect for free speech and assures the speaker he has the freedom and power to say what is in his heart, he who speaks may do so with the power and strength of a great animal.

Wolf Spirit embodies leadership, wolves are gentle and compassionate but can also be awesomely fierce.
