Supporting Indigenous Youth, Reconciliation and Cultural Revitalization

Allies of the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre work alongside us to reach our goals. Collectively, we recognize the value of working together to build stronger ties between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people and support our purpose to uplift the Sḵwxwú7mesh and Lílwat7úl people, with pride and visibility on their land.

As an 100% Indigenous-owned organization, a non-profit registered charity, we employ over 80% Indigenous Ambassadors, and have trained and mentored over 650 youth through our Indigenous Youth Ambassador Program. We rely on well-aligned reciprocal partnerships to deliver our cultural programming, education, and curation efforts each day – that’s where generous organizations step in and up, to support us though the Allyship Program.

Allyship in Action

Being an Ally to the SLCC means walking alongside us with respect, care, and humility. It’s about listening to our stories, histories, and honouring our cultures, language, arts and ways of knowing. It is the tough work of the inbetweener* – choosing to stand up against stereotypes and appropriation, to support Indigenous-led work, and to approach cultural expression with curiosity and gratitude. For each of us it is an ongoing commitment to keep learning, to stay open, and to build relationships grounded in trust, respect, and shared humanity.

*An “in-betweener” is someone who walks between divides, a bridge-builder who navigates the spaces created by colonial & cultural silos, linking Indigenous and non-indigenous people. It requires courage and discomfort, because it means stepping beyond familiar roles and relationships to act in service of reconciliation and connection”
– Jody Wilson‑Raybould

Allyship Tiers

The Allyship program is a flexible annual (12 month) partnership available to organizations to support the SLCC. Intake dates vary based on when the business wishes to start. Each level of Allyship has custom benefits, whether it is Thunderbird, Eagle, Bear or Frog, your friendship is part of our success and good work.

The Thunderbird controls the sky, bringing gifts to the people in times of need.

Eagles soar closer to the ancestors, bringing news from the land.

Bears protect and defend. A fierce motherhood to all.

Frogs bring springtime and rebirth.

Allyship Partnership at the highest levels (Thunderbird and Eagle) allows for some customization to the needs of your business, and our Allies are supported in unique ways with things like cultural training, exclusive event ticket priority, translation support, photography, collaborations and cultural consultancy services.

We always choose our Allies first when it comes to partnership, information sharing and inclusion – this is priceless. Download the Allyship Flatsheet to learn more.

We support the SLCC’s Youth Ambassador Program because we believe that investing in young people is one of the most meaningful commitments any community can make — especially when that investment is rooted in culture, identity, and place. As guests on the unceded territories of the Squamish Nation and Lil’wat Nation, this is part of our ongoing journey of allyship, learning, and reconciliation, and we are honoured to contribute to a future where Indigenous youth thrive, lead, and shape the path forward.
