“We belong to the land, the land is the people and the people are the land.”-Chief Gibby Jacobs
The Lil’wat Nation are Ucwalmícw ‘People of the land.’
The Honouring the Gifts of our Forest Exhibition highlights the relationship between animals, people and the land.
The Squamish and Lil’wat Nation lived a holistic and balanced lifestyle. They practiced balance and equality for all, flora, fauna, animals and people. We learned from the Animal People how to survive in our territory. Each season our people knew what was ready for picking, where it was and the best way to prepare it.
View carved masks, medicinal plants, traditional paint, taxidermy animal furs, weaving material and finished baskets.
