Experience a Powerful Month of Connection this September at the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre (SLCC) in Whistler. The SLCC invites both locals and visitors to join in a meaningful month of Indigenous-led programming this September. In the lead-up to the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Tuesday, September 30, the SLCC offers a powerful opportunity for reflection, education, and connection — through storytelling, cultural sharing, immersive experiences, and thought-provoking guest speakers, including Jody Wilson-Raybould on September 17.

The Spo7ez Online Auction aims to raise both funds and awareness for the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre, its impactful Indigenous Youth Ambassador (IYA) program, and cultural revitalization. Featuring an array of donated products and experiences from our generous Sea to Sky business community, there’s something for everyone.

Reflect on our history. Connect to the land. September 30th will be a day of reflection, stories, learning, and contemplation at the SLCC. The day will be filled with programming throughout the Great Hall, Istken Hall, Galleries, and out on the Mezzanine patio.

Saturday, September 30, 10 am – 5 pm

Explore the Spo7ez Artist Market, as part of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, showcasing talented artisans from the Squamish Nation and Lil’wat Nation. Featuring handmade crafts, jewellery, fashion and accessories, traditional art, and locally made wellness products, every purchase supports Indigenous makers and culture.

The feature exhibit shares how traditional knowledge and history were passed down from generation to generation through stories. Guests can experience storytelling, bold artwork, petroglyphs and pictographs showing the connection to the land of the Sk̲wx̲wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) territory and the Lil̓wat7úl (Lil’wat Nation) territory. Continuing the tradition of ancestors, these stories tell meaningful connections to the land, anchoring families to specific areas throughout time and strengthening their identities.

Beginning May 10, 2025, throughout spring and summer, Cultural Ambassadors will share a special feature Legends of the Land Tour at 11 am, beginning with a welcome song, and live storytelling within the exhibit space in Gallery 3, and is included with admission.

This tour begins with a traditional welcome song inside the Cultural Centre followed by a fifteen minute film. Afterwards, guests visit our Interpretive Forest Trail, the Salish Stroll, where a knowledgeable Cultural Ambassador provides insight into the local flora and fauna in our shared territory. Guests will learn how the Nations used them for food, in our teas as preventative medicine, and how we transformed some into useful tools. This tour provides a glimpse of how our ancestors lived, and it showcases our intimate connection with our land.

The SLCC welcomes guests to see the new Lil’wat Story Pole carved by Master Carver Jonathan Joe, Apprentice Redmond Q̓áwam̓ Andrews, and Todd Edmonds, at the entrance to the SLCC on Lorimer Road in Whistler, where it now stands alongside the Squamish House Post carved by Xwalacktun and Brandon Hall of the Squamish Nation in 2023.

The SLCC is proud to share authentic art and storytelling through the Go Whistler Tours App – created by Tourism Whistler and the Resort Municipality of Whistler. Thoughtfully curated by SLCC Curator Mixalhítsa7 Alison Pascal, the Art & Storytelling of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and Líl̓wat7úl – walking tour weaves its way through the Village to nine locations that are culturally significant to the Squamish Nation and Lil’wat Nation starting at and returning to the SLCC.
