National Indigenous History Month
Celebrate National Indigenous History Month during June with the spirit of Skw̲xw̲ú7mesh and Líl̓wat7úl at the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre in Whistler. Connect with Cultural Ambassadors as they share interpretive forest tours, craft workshops, live carving, art, performances, craft, storytelling, and guided tours of the museum – Whistler’s authentic Indigenous experience.
National Indigenous History Month provides a platform to share the authentic experiences of the Squamish Nation and the Lil’wat Nation, inviting visitors, residents, businesses, and employees in Whistler to engage with the distinctive cultures of these nations. The SLCC’s immersive cultural tours and craft offerings, along with feature exhibitions, provide an opportunity for guests to authentically connect with the land and its people. Throughout June, guests can participate in a variety of experiences, including craft workshops, and guided tours.
On Saturday, June 21 – National Indigenous Peoples Day, a variety of engaging cultural experiences will be available, including an Artists Market, Artist demonstrations, Curator Tours, storytelling and cultural sharing performances. Explore authentic First Nations artwork and keepsakes in the Gallery and Gift Shop, and enjoy Indigenous-inspired cuisine at the Thunderbird Café.
Throughout June across Canada – National Indigenous History Month brings an opportunity to learn about the unique cultures, traditions, and experiences of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis. A time to hear their stories, and honour the achievements, and resilience of Indigenous Peoples who have lived on this land since time immemorial and celebrate their presence today. The SLCC is proud to be the heart of the authentic Indigenous experience of the Skwxwú7mesh and Líl̓wat7úl – the original peoples of the shared territories in Whistler.
