10 Mar Alice Guss – Workshop and Community Leader

This weekend we have the honour of having Alice Tsawaysia Spukwus Guss one site for two whole days giving workshops on drumming and traditional weaving.

A little bit about Alice
Alice specializes in Language and Culture and provided innovative learning opportunities for students. Her English name is known as Alice Guss, she is a Squamish First Nation member that is a strong, committed and active in preservation of their language/culture and heritage. Her father, Pekultn was a Hereditary Chief from Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Alice has over 20 years in Education; including Director Of Education, five years as an Employment Coordinator and 15 years delivering Sacred Drum making workshops.

Alice is masterful at bringing innovative learning opportunities to all people through workshops, drumming, singing, dancing and storytelling. She is an avid participant in healing Tribal Journeys and more recently co-produced a number of documentaries including Squamish Nation: Stories from the Heart and Tribal Journeys. During the 2010 Olympics, she coordinated her family’s Sea Going Canoe display and her Family shared songs, dances, history to the Czech Republic Bobsled Team.

Alice was recently featured in the Pique News Magazine for her work as an artists, communicator and healer. The article is written by Cathryn Atkins who also kindly submitted the above photo of Alice.
