The Coast Salish Wool Weaving Revitalization Project

Currently taking place in Gallery 3, Squamish Nation Elders Chepximiya Siyam Chief Janice George and Skwetsimeltxw Willard ‘Buddy’ Joseph are leading Apprentices Cheximiya Allison Burns Joseph (Squamish Nation) and A7xwil Travis Billy (St’at’imc and Secwepemc Nations, adopted into Squamish Nation) in creating two pieces side by side while undergoing a traditional transfer of knowledge from female to female and male to male.

We are so proud to be a living cultural centre where daily transfer of knowledge can be seen, shared, and celebrated. Museum guests are encouraged to observe this transfer of knowledge during their visit to the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre; the foursome are working together Tuesdays and Wednesdays through until Tuesday, October 9.

An unveiling of their completed projects will be held early October.
