A Photographic Journey into Belonging

As urban cities, farmland, towns, and recreation parks built up around us, our Ancestors are still here, living in the blood of the people of this land. While pop culture, fashion trends and global connection are influencing how people move through society, people residing on and off reserve are living deeply in their culture, engaged socially and politically with the world around them, reviving ancient traditions, re-enforcing a stewardship that guides their climate and lands safely through the first 50 thousand years before contact.

Set in breathtaking Sea to Sky locations from K’emk’emeláy (Vancouver) to Ts’zil (Mount Currie) mountain, the UNCEDED photography exhibit asks the guest to look at the world through a different lens. Marrying regalia, elders, chieftainship with the modern world around us, reshaping how we view our presence here, bringing a sense of belonging to both the viewer and the people celebrated in the exhibit.

Join the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre in Whistler for a photographic journey onto the UNCEDED Territories of the Sk̲wx̲wú7mesh Úxwumixw, the Lil’wat7ul and where their territories meet in Whistler, BC. Opened on the winter solstice – December 21, 2022, guests are invited to view the UNCEDED Photography Exhibition in Gallery 3 of the Museum, running until October 8, 2023.
